The Republic: Failed Revolution
In the early days of *The Republic*, a coalition of whistleblowers and former *United Planets* legislators voted to establish universal suffrage, make industrial lobbying illegal, establish corporate taxes and remove the conglomerates’ veto powers. Media groups framed this vote as a pirate insurrection, and militias took control of The Republic’s institutions. The senators behind it disappeared, and were later accused of fleeing aboard pirate ships to avoid prosecution.
